Brauchler leading in district attorney contest

In the 18th Judicial District, District Attorney Carol Chambers, a Republican, was term-limited, so the office was assured of having a new face.

Republican George Brauchler, who challenged Chambers in the 2008 party primary, was leading Democrat Ethan Feldman by a 54 percent to 46 percent margin, according to figures as of 8:50 p.m. Nov. 6.

Both men have prosecutorial experience, and both campaigns focused on retaining attorneys in the DA’s office and on wise use of the DA’s budget.

Brauchler urged taking more serious cases to trial instead of focusing on plea bargains, and said an office under his leadership would be “pro-active” in pushing for laws to protect citizens.

Feldman called for a respectful relationship with other parties in the criminal justice system, including victims, and placed an emphasis on the ethics of the district attorney’s office.

The district encompasses Arapahoe, Douglas, Elbert and Lincoln counties.
