A Parker man was killed after his motorcycle struck an oncoming car on Highway 83 south of Bayou Gulch Road.
Aaron Gallegos, 45, was traveling northbound on Highway 83 when his 1980 Harley Davidson veered into the southbound lane and hit a 2003 Honda Accord just before 5:30 p.m. July 23. He then fell off the Honda and onto the road, where he was hit by a southbound Ford van that was driving behind the Honda, said Trooper Josh Lewis, spokesman for the Colorado State Patrol.
Gallegos was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not wearing a helmet.
It’s unclear whether he was trying to pass another vehicle. It does not appear that excessive speed was a factor, but alcohol or drugs are being investigated as a possible cause, Lewis said. The Douglas County Coroner will conduct toxicology tests to determine whether Gallegos had any substances in his system. No one is expected to be criminally charged.
The 28-year-old woman driving the Honda, as well as her passenger, sustained minor injuries when the car went off an embankment.
The state patrol closed Highway 83, a two-lane road where the accident occurred, for more than three hours to investigate.
