Two north-south roads in extreme eastern Elbert County have been washed out and are expected to remain closed for at least the next few days, according to Elbert County Sheriff Shayne Heap.
“County Road 173 and County Road 169 are both closed between CR 30 and CR 42,” said Heap. “We lost both of those roads a month ago during the big August storm and our Road and Bridge crews are reporting that both roads have washed out again.”
Heap said the road closures occurred early Friday morning.
“If we get a break in the weather, repair work could start Saturday morning,” the sheriff said, estimating that the earliest the arteries could be passable would be Saturday night or Sunday morning.
“The last time these two roads washed out in early August, we lost 12 feet of road,” Heap said. “Road and Bridge crews needed 40 belly dumps (semi-truck loads) to build them back up.”
