The undersheriff for Elbert County was dismissed from his job last month “due to a clear violation of policy,” according to County Commissioner Danny Willcox. No specifics were provided about the violation.
Tony Schiefelbein had been employed with Elbert County since May 2005. In 2009 he was honored with a medal for assisting in the birth of a baby in an Elbert County home, likely saving the newborn’s life.
It is also not known whether an investigation has been done or is ongoing with regard to the alleged violation of policy.

At least one candidate has been reviewed to fill the role but no decision has been made, according to the sheriff.
“I will let you know as soon as a decision has been made,” Heap said.
