Grand Opening. Guadalajara Mexican Restaurant is open starting May 1 from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Elizabeth Chamber will be hosting a ribbon cutting at 3 p.m. May 13.

River Trailer The Elbert County Library District, in collaboration with The Natural Resources Conservation Service, presents a special “Wet & Watery” program at the next Ooey Gooey Science day at 3:30 p.m. May 20 at the Elizabeth Library. The river trailer will also be featured at 10 a.m. May 24 at the Elbert School Branch Library and at 1 p.m. at the Simla Branch Library’s Marvelous Monday program. On Aug. 14, during the Kiowa Street Fair, the trailer will be hosted by the Kiowa Branch Library. Each event is free and open to the public.

Pro Se Divorce Clinic. The Elbert & Lincoln County Pro Se Divorce Clinic is a free legal clinic for parties who have no attorney, and who are going through Dissolution of Marriage, Legal Separation, or Post-Decree cases. Parties will be assisted on a first-come, first-served basis, and will be helped with filling out forms and general information on divorce and post-decree procedures and process. The Pro Se Clinic is informational only, and is not a substitute for legal representation. The class is offered from 9 a.m. to noon the third Friday of every month at the Elbert County Justic Center, 751 Ute St. in Kiowa. For 2010, classes are May 21, June 18, July 16, Aug. 20, Sept. 17, Oct. 15, Nov. 19, and Dec. 17.

Elbert County Historical Society. Explore the oceans, dinosaurs and ancient forests of Elbert County, as well as the power and destruction that Mother Nature unleashes, with an encore presentation of the “Prehistoric Kiowa” exhibit and the opening of a new exhibit, “1930s: A Decade of Disasters” from 1-4 p.m. May 30 at the Elbert County Museum, 515 Comanche St. Visit www.elbertcountymuseum.org/index.htm.

Gardening Club. The Kiowa Gardening Group in June will be all about the kids. From 1:30-3 p.m. June 11 we’ll explore how seeds become plants. Bring a kid with you to share your love of gardening with the next generation.
