Elizabeth High School football coach Chris Cline took his Cardinals to Colorado Springs Sept. 4 for a non-league game against the Harrison Panthers and won 42-28.

The offensive line consisted of Seth Tenyeck at center with Chase Cline anchoring the guard position. Cods Sweigert was the other guard. Traco Ross and Calvin Lockerby were tackles. Sean Dorrance and Eli McKinney rotated at tight end. The O-line helped the Cards generate 260 yards rushing and 144 passing yards.

In the first quarter, Zach Butler scored a touchdown on a 23-yard run, with Calvin Lockerby kicked the successful point-after-touchdown to put Elizabeth up 7-0. Quarterback Dalton Taylor threw a 7-yard touchdown reception to Brad Goldsberry to make the score 14-0 at halftime after another kick from Lockerby.

Butler scored from one yard out, picking up his second touchdown of the night in the third quarter. Lockerby’s kick was good.

Harrison did not role over and play dead, however. The Panthers scored their first touchdown on an 84-yard kick return in the third. Harrison gained momentum scoring their second touchdown on a 16-yard run tohelp the score to 21-14 by the end of the third.

Taylor later connected with Matt Biery for a 68-yard touchdown pass. Lockerby’s kick made the score 35-14, but one more time, Harrison scored on an 80-yard kick off return. Plus, they added a two-point conversion to bring the score to 35-22 Cardinals.

Butler scored his fourth TD of the night on a four-yard sprint. Lockerby puts his sixth PAT through the posts to make the score 42-22. Harrison did not quit. They battled to the end and scored once again making the final score Elizabeth 42, Harrison 28.

The Cards had 21 first downs and 404 total offensive yards. Beiry rushed 13 times for 130 yards and caught three passes for 93 receiving yards and one touchdown. Butler rushed 16 times for 83 yards and four touchdowns. Goldsberry rushed nine times for 55 yards and caught three passes for 24 yards and one touchdown. Taylor completed eight passes for 144 yards with two touchdown passes and one interception.

On defense, Zach Shipman intercepted a pass and had four assisted tackles. Sweigert had an interception, one tackles and nine assists. Dorrance had one tackle and 11 assists. Goldsberry had two tackles and seven assists, while McKinney had five assisted tackles.
