Changes proposed to high school schedule

Posted

Last week, Elizabeth High School principal Greg Wieman presented a proposed idea to the school board concerning the high school schedule.

Currently, the school runs on a block schedule, but Wieman presented information on a trimester schedule.

He said as a way to continue to constantly enhance students performance and achievement, he is always looking at options to provide what is needed for the success of the students and the trimester schedule is an option.

The trimester schedule would be based on three 12-week periods, with five classes per day. Currently the high school’s block schedule is two 18-week blocks with up to eight classes per semester, four classes alternating every other day, 92 minutes per class. The trimester schedule would allow for the five classes to meet everyday, 74 minutes per class.

Wieman said a major benefit for the trimester schedule is increased instructional time between students and teachers.

“The trimester schedule would allow for more student-teacher contact each day,” he said. “There would be more face time with the kids and the teachers are very supportive of that idea.”

At this time the trimester schedule is only a proposition to the board to consider for further discussion at the Dec. 10 board meeting. Anyone, students, parents, community members who would like more information on the trimester schedule can call Wieman at 303-646- 4616 or e-mail him at gwieman@esdk12.org.
