A 54-year-old Elizabeth man and his 5-year-old daughter were found dead inside the man's truck on Dec. 1 in what the Elbert County Sheriff's Office is calling an apparent murder-suicide.
The discovery of the bodies in Casey Jones Park east of Elizabeth brought an end to a search that involved three law enforcement agencies, according to a press release from the sheriff's office.
The attempts to locate the man and his daughter began with the Elizabeth Police Department looking for a potentially suicidal man with his daughter, for whom he was the custodial parent, the press release said. The sheriff's office provided assistance.
The man was considered to be a clear danger to the girl and a Missing and Endangered Alert was issued to media and displayed on CDOT signs around the state as the investigation continued.
A relative of the man called Elizabeth Police from Lone Tree, where that city's police force responded and found some of the man's personal items and a possible suicide note.
Elizabeth police continued to search their town and surrounding areas until finding the man's truck with both bodies inside in Casey Jones Park.
The park is in unincorporated Elbert County and the sheriff's office is handling the investigation, which is being treated as a murder-suicide, the press release said.
