Elizabeth Mayor Pro-Tem Susette Frausto was re-elected to the Colorado Municipal League Executive Board by municipal officials from around the state during the 87th annual conference June 16-19 in Vail.

Col. Mark V. Trostel, of Kiowa, received the Honorary Life Member award from the Colorado Cattlemen’s Association during the association’s 2009 annual convention in Grand Junction.

Trostel, a member of the cattlemen’s association and the Elbert-Douglas Livestock Association, has played a vital role over many years in assisting the livestock industry. He was re-started the Livestock Liaison Program with the state patrol, which led to him being awarded association’s Livestock Officer of the Year in 2006.

A Creative Movement & Costume Trunk workshop from Colorado Ballet is offered for preschool-age children in celebration of Elbert County Library District’s summer reading program, Be Creative @ Your Library.

This workshop encourages young children to move to music, develop listening and kinetic skills through “freeze dancing” and other activities. Children will also be able to try on ballet costumes.

The July 14 event is at 9:30 a.m. at the Elizabeth Library; 11:30 a.m. at the Kiowa Library, and 2 p.m. at Singing Hills Elementary School. Call 303-646-3792.

The deadline for the branch library coloring contests for ages 4-5 and 6-7 is at 2 p.m. July 15. Winners will be announced at each branch July 17, with a Children’s Museum ticket for each winner.

Summer reading activities are planned July 13. Book Mark Fun, for grades K-5, is at 10 a.m. at the Simla Library, and All Kinds of Art for All Kinds of Ages is at 1 p.m. at the Elbert Library.

Express Yourself @ Your Library programming for grades 6 and up includes:

“Avatar,” 1 p.m. July 15 at the Simla Library;

“Duct Tape Party,” 3:30 p.m. July 15 at the Kiowa Library.

“Express Yourself,” 2 p.m. July 16 at the Elizabeth Library

“Marbelized Paper,” 4:30 p.m. July 16 at the Elbert Library.

Level 3 prizes will be awarded beginning July 11. Children and teens can claim their Jabberwocky coupon, and children will also receive Heritage Square coupons. Prize quantities are limited, and when advertised prizes are depleted, alternates will be offered.
