County office grows

Elbert County Community and Development Services department has expanded their responsibilities and services.

During the Aug. 12 Elbert board of County Commissioners meeting the board approved the department’s expansion to include an office of economic development under the leadership skills of Richard Miller, director of community and development services.

Commissioner Del Schwab said he believes the office will allow citizens voice concerns regarding economic development in Elbert County to Miller who will then make recommendations to the board.

“This office allows the county to be in contact with the state economic development office,” Schwab said.

Commissioners Hope Goetz and John Shipper agreed with Schwab on the decision.

“This is long overdue and we need to get something moving in that direction,” Goetz said.
