A showcase of student achievement and educational activities
will highlight the first annual Elizabeth Schools Community Fair
from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on May 9 at Elizabeth High School, 36500
County Road 13.
“We have never had anything like this before and we wanted to do
something that brings the community together. We are inviting folks
to see and celebrate with us all the wonderful things are students
and staffs are doing in Elizabeth,” said Elizabeth High School
Principal Jim Trevino, who is spearheading the event.
Trevino will serve as the Chief Academic Officer for the
district this coming school year.
In addition to student activity exhibits, the fair will feature
music from the schools’ bands and choirs as well as dance
performances, theater arts presentations, and interactive
activities for the whole family, including face painting and
opportunities to experience some of the districts sports
activities.
Several student competitions will be offered for students of all
ages and a juried art show featuring art from students throughout
the district will be on display. Food booths will offer students an
opportunity to raise funds for their activities as well.
“The community fair is intended to bring the community together
in the spirit of education and giving students and teachers the
opportunity to showcase the results of excellent education,”
Trevino said. “We want it to be a blend of activities for all
ages,” he added, saying one of the school district’s goals is to
provide more and more activities and opportunities for all
children.
Each of the district’s schools will be participating in the
community fair, including Elizabeth High School, Frontier High
School, Legacy Academy, Elizabeth Middle School, Singing Hills and
Running Creek elementary schools and the district’s learning
center, early childhood programs, preschool and Kids Club.
“We will have something for everyone from preschoolers to adults
and really want this to be a celebration of everything that is
happening in Elizabeth educationally,” Trevino said. Several
organizations with educational outreach within the community will
also participate in the community fair.
“We want everyone to join in our student showcase and community
celebration,” Trevino said.
