Englewood gets third recreational cannabis dispensary

An Englewood marijuana dispensary has made the shift from medical-only to recreational sales, in a location around the corner from the southern end of the city's bustling 3400 block of South Broadway.

Bgood held its grand opening as a recreational-sales dispensary over the last three days of June. The business at 11 W. Hampden Ave. is the third recreational dispensary to open in the city. Bgood has three other locations — in Denver, Northglenn and Federal Heights.

The change from medical-only to recreational sales at Bgood came after the expiration of a provision in Englewood's marijuana-sales ordinance, which city voters approved in November 2016. That provision gave a two-year head start in recreational sales to two other Englewood dispensaries that had gotten the marijuana-sales ordinance placed on the ballot.

Bgood dispensaries carry around 15 to 45 different strains of cannabis at various times, along with edibles, concentrates and cartridges.

“We're here because we want to show a different side to a cannabis consumer. The idea behind our name is to be the change in the world you want to see, and it's important that we acknowledge the responsibilities that we carry in this industry,” said Tim Morgen, a spokesperson for the dispensary. He added that Bgood is part of the Greater Englewood Chamber of Commerce, an entity that aims to help businesses in the city succeed.

Nathan Bestie is one of the founders of Positive Vibes Smoke and Gift Shop, a head shop that carries products for consuming cannabis and cannabis extracts in Englewood, and he is a manager for Bgood. He has lived in the city for three years, and he's excited to see what kind of foot traffic Bgood can bring to his business, which is a little more than a block away on the other side of Broadway.

“The more all of these cool things start coming in — we have everything. I've been dreaming for (a dispensary) to open around here,” said Bestie.

One off the cannabis brands the dispensary carries is Lama Brand Cannabis. Anthony Karas, owner of Lama Brand Cannabis, is looking forward to the dispensary having a southern outlet.

“We're excited to be in this part of Broadway and to be a part of the cannabis culture that is in this area here,” said Karas.
