The Elbert County Early Childhood Council once again brought children and families to the Elbert County Fairgrounds for the second Children’s Festival.

The event provided games and prizes for children up to the age of 8 in the Exhibit Hall on April 24. Coordinator Cathyrn Reiber, with the childhood council, said the event was more successful than last year’s, bringing in more than 100 attendants and more than 20 community agencies, including the Elizabeth Fire Department, Elbert County Coalition for Outreach, the Elbert County Sheriff’s Office and the Elbert County Department of Public Health and Environment.

“We really tried to make this year bigger and better than last year,” she said. “We hope every year is bigger than the last, and eventually we would love to have such a big event that we will have to find a bigger space or make it some kind of carnival for the community to enjoy.”

Reiber said the focus of the Children’s Festival is to bring awareness and information to county residents about the services and agencies available to them and to inform parents and children about the importance of good health, whether it be physical, mental or emotional. She said many people in the community are not aware of the agencies that are in their county and end up traveling out of the county to seek needs.

“Many people in the county hear about things by word of mouth and often information gets left out,” she said. “But Elbert County has a lot of good public agencies that provide great services and support.”

The Elbert County Early Childhood Council is a council of Elbert County community members dedicated to serving children from birth to the age of 8 and their families. For more information, visit www.ececc.org.
