Gun, ammunition found in student's locker at Euclid Middle School in Littleton

An unloaded handgun and ammunition were found in a student's athletic locker at Euclid Middle School on Monday and an investigation is underway, according to principal Cindy Corlett.

In an email to parents, Corlett said the students alleged to be involved have been identified and taken into custody by the Littleton Police Department. Charges are pending.

Corlett, in her email, said the school was put on hold while police investigated. Police conducted a search of the area with a K9 unit but noted no further safety concerns. Students remained in their classrooms and continued learning without moving through the school. The hold lasted about 90 minutes and was lifted around 1 p.m., Corlett said.

Students were not told what was happening, just that there was a "safety concern in the building," Corlett said in her email. Staff were said to have spoken with students this morning about the event.

"We will work closely with teachers and Student Services to provide support for students in the coming days as this may be an emotionally difficult situation to understand," Corlett said in her email.

According to Corlett, the concern was reported by students to a school staff member.

"The safety and security protocols we have in place worked as they are designed to and led to a quick resolution," Corlett said. "But, the fact remains this was a very concerning incident that should never happen."
