Legacy Academy, a kindergarten through eighth-grade charter
school in Elizabeth, has announced that it has begun fall
enrollment for its 2009-10 school year.
Legacy Academy is a tuition-free charter school of choice that
serves students from multiple counties and school districts. The
school currently has more than 377 students with small class sizes
and a family atmosphere. Interested students are welcome to visit
the school and/or Legacy's Web site at www.legacyk12.org for more
information. The Web site also includes a downloadable Letter of
Intent Form to help expedite the enrollment process.
Legacy Academy is committed to fulfilling its mission statement,
"to guide students in the development of their character and
academic potential through an academically rigorous, content-rich
educational environment," by offering strong academic and character
programs.
These programs include, among others, the world-renowned Core
Knowledge curriculum with its sister character program, Core
Virtues. The Core Knowledge curriculum covers history and science
in integral steps, building upon itself each year in a student's
academic career. Legacy also uses Shurley Grammar, Step Up to
Writing, Spalding Phonics, and Saxon Math to round out its
curriculum. Students are given the opportunity to pursue music,
drama, and art as well, all of which are also included in their
education.
Finally, Legacy offers opportunities for all students whether
they require assistance with special education or reading. A
gifted/talented program was also started in 2009. Free tutoring is
available after school four days a week. And, ability grouping
challenges students to excel at their best in both math and
reading.
