Legend remains competitive

Benn Farrell

In its first year, Legend High School volleyball is looking to be a tough team right out of the gate.

With an overall record of 6-6 as of Sept. 20, the Titans are working on being competitive against every team it plays, coach Katie Winsor said, and every match and practice.

“This team will develop quickly and cohesively, because they are being pushed to compete at a high level of play immediately upon entering high school as freshmen,” Winsor said.

The Titans are seizing their opportunity to play great competition.

Recently, Legend made an appearance in tournament action at Rock Canyon High School in Highlands Ranch, where they placed fifth in the junior varsity tournament.

“[This is] a huge accomplishment for a team of all freshmen,” Winsor said. “But we also experienced a lot of growth that day against more experienced players.”

Winsor said the Titans’ best game of the year so far was against Valor Christian, which Legend lost in four tight sets (26-24, 27-25, 23-25, 25-22).

“Though we weren’t victorious, point-for-point games like this are a great test of our stamina and help us develop ways to maintain a high level of play,” the inaugural coach said. “The girls are beginning to be scrappy in order to find a way to win. Matches like that begin preparing us for a future of playoffs when we are older.”

The Titans’ top players are outside hitter Danielle Grever, outside hitter Sydney Houser, setter Emily Jarvis and libero Kylee Guillen.
