Some of you may be aware that Elbert County recently made
history by opening its first presidential campaign office. Those of
us who have been working hard on Obama’s Campaign for Change were
thrilled to be part of something so exciting.
Imagine our horror, sadness and anger when this past Saturday at
12:30 a.m. we got a phone call saying that someone had vandalized
our office by shattering all the windows on the front of the
building, including the bedroom window of the nice person who
donated the space.
Now, I live right across the street from a Douglas County deputy
sheriff and our families have been friends since we moved in. When
we put our campaign yard signs out, supporting the Democratic
candidates running for office in our district, they put their signs
out for the republican candidates. We were all thrilled to see so
many people getting involved in the historic election and
expressing their different views.
So when our new office was so brutally vandalized, windows
shattered and sign ripped from the wall we could not believe that
our fellow Elizabeth residents, our friends and neighbors, would be
so ugly. No matter what your political point of view, we are your
neighbors. Not Democrats, not Obama supporters, just your
neighbors. How very sad we all feel.
If you disagree with what happened here, stop on by because
we're still here. Tell us how you feel whether you are a
Republican, Independent or Democrat. Let us know that we are still
neighbors.
