Peak Vista expands COVID-19 testing in Kiowa

Screening for virus available for people showing symptoms age 12 and older

Peak Vista Community Health Centers is now offering COVID-19 testing opportunities at its health center at Kiowa for symptomatic individuals 12 years of age and older.

No appointment or doctor's referral is required, and those requesting testing do not need to be Peak Vista patients. Employees of Elbert County seeking testing will need prior authorization.

“During these trying times, it is essential for everyone in the communities we serve to have access to the care they need and deserve,” Peak Vista President and CEO Pam McManus said in a news release. “Peak Vista's commitment has never been stronger, and our staff are dedicated to providing health care to our rural communities.”

Peak Vista staff will ask visitors to fill out a demographic form prior to testing, which collects basic demographic information such as income and family size to determine whether the patient qualifies for any assistance.

Those who are symptomatic — for example, fever above 100 degrees, cough, shortness of breath, chills, muscle pain, headache, sore throat, new loss of taste and smell, etc. — will be tested for COVID-19 and will be asked for a form of identification and insurance, if applicable. Peak Vista also will screen patients for a sliding fee scale discount.

No copayments or deductibles will be collected at the time of testing.

The COVID-19 test involves a swab of a patient's nose while staying in their car. There is a limit of two people per car. All tests are being supplied and processed through Quest Diagnostics, and those individuals who are tested will receive a phone call with their results from a Peak Vista provider.

Anyone requesting testing is asked to stay home and avoid public transit and public places such as grocery stores until they get their results. The testing site is at Peak Vista's Health Center at Kiowa, 320 Comanche St, Kiowa. Based on test availability, the routine hours will be Tuesday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

“We're so glad to build our relationship with Peak Vista to offer COVID-19 testing to our employees and residents. As we move towards getting back to normal, testing capacity is a critical consideration,” Chris Richardson, chair of the Elbert County Board of Commissioners, said in the news release. “This partnership will help move us in the right direction.”
