Occupation: I am a United States Air Force veteran and have worked in the defense industry for 36 years. Following my military service, I joined Lockheed-Martin, where I served as an analyst and senior manager for 16 years. In 2008, I moved to a small DOD company, Analysis, Computing and Engineering (ACEs) where I served as an analyst and vice president of Colorado operations. My responsibilities included managing business growth, personnel, finance and security for the Colorado division. Throughout my career, I have held a security clearance with periodic background checks that include counter-intelligence and full-scope polygraphs, ensuring trust at the highest levels.

Where do you live?

After living in the Pinery (Parker, Douglas County) for 13 years, I have lived in Elizabeth since 2017.

Why are you seeking this office? 

I decided to announce my campaign for commissioner after witnessing what I felt was indifference to the wishes and concerns of the Elbert County residents regarding land use and water preservation issues. I was also troubled by the combative attitude towards state officials. I have the time, experience, and a desire to make a positive change for the county, so I am offering my services to all the residents of Elbert County. I believe together we can make positive contributions to county government.

What makes you the best person for the job?

I will bring honesty, integrity, and measured leadership to the commissioner position. I have no hidden agenda; I care about the people in the county and our rural way of life. My only objective is to bring transparency to the commissioner position, listening to residents of Elbert County, and working to find measured and sustainable solutions to the growth encroaching on our rural community. My knowledge and experience in leading people and managing million-dollar contracts provides me the necessary foundation to ensure our county taxpayer dollars are managed in a fiscally responsible way that bring a benefit to the taxpayers.

How should growth in the town be
managed in the coming years?

Growth should fit Elbert County rather than Elbert County fit growth. Growth should happen per the wishes of the residents of the county, not just a few developers and the few who benefit. Infrastructure needs to keep up with (not lag) the growth. Developers benefit the most from growth, and therefore they should provide the infrastructure needs of each new community (and not via Metro or Special District taxes).

What would be your biggest priority if elected?

Limiting growth to the wishes of the current residents, not a few developers. Listening to the residents on all issues. Transparency in public service is vital to gain and keep public trust. Providing access to the commissioners, holding meetings at a time that benefits more residents, following up with quick and thorough responses.

What else should voters know about you?

The Board of County Commissioners must act in the best interests of all the residents of our county, not just the few. Regaining the public trust is going to be difficult. For far too long, residents have been given cause to believe their needs and wishes do not count. I believe that when the county commissioners demonstrate that the needs of the residents come first, we will regain the trust of the community. As your commissioner, the first two questions I will ask before making decisions are: “How does this issue benefit the citizens of the county; and, how does this issue add value to the county?”
