Cameron Lynch, a sixth-grader at Legacy Academy in Elizabeth, has been accepted into the People to People World Leadership Forum. Lynch will join a group of students in Washington, D.C., Sept. 8-14 to earn high school credit while studying leadership and exploring some of the U.S. monuments and institutions. Lynch was nominated and accepted to the program based on scholastic merit, civic involvement, and leadership potential.

Applications and fact sheets have been delivered to high school counselors in Elizabeth, Elbert, Kiowa and Parker for a $500 scholarship to be awarded in March 2009 by Smoky Hill Trail Chapter, National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Home-schooled students are also eligible for this scholarship to be awarded to a graduating senior who has been accepted at an institution of higher learning. Megan Kirkpatrick, of Elizabeth, received the Community Learners Scholarship from the University of North Dakota for the 2008-09 academic year. Kirkpatrick, daughter of Debi and Don Kirkpatrick, graduated from Cherokee Trail High School and plans to attend UND in the fall.

Kimberly Gale, a senior at Elizabeth High School, is one of 235 students in the state of Colorado to qualify as a Semifinalist for the 2009 National Merit Program. Those students whose scores were in the top tier of all students tested are now recognized as Semifinalists.
