Student brag booths and performances at fair

Up to 60 “brag booths” showcasing student projects, programs and services, along with performances from students at each of the schools within the Elizabeth C-1 School District will be featured at the first annual Elizabeth Schools Community Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 9 at Elizabeth High School, 36500 County Road 13 in Elizabeth.

Among some of the features of the district’s community fair:

Student artwork entered in the art scholarship awards program sponsored by Air Academy Federal Credit Union will be on display to showcase the talent of students throughout the district.

High school clubs, sports and activity groups will have “brag booths” to show what they have been doing throughout the year.

Interactive activities will give parents and community members an opportunity to test their knowledge or expertise in history, science, sports and other areas.

A food court will give groups an opportunity to raise funds for their programs.

In addition, a variety of performances are scheduled to showcase the talents of students from throughout the district every 15 minutes between 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Included will be the Elizabeth High School Jazz Band and Chamber Choir, drama, improvisational and comedy performances, grade school choirs and bands, and more.

“We have never had anything like this before and we want to do something that brings the community together,” said Elizabeth High School Principal Jim Trevino, who is spearheading the event. “We are inviting folks to come and celebrate all the wonderful things our students and staffs are doing in Elizabeth.”

Each of the district’s schools will be participating in the community fair, including Elizabeth High School, Frontier High School, Legacy Academy, Elizabeth Middle School, Singing Hills and Running Creek elementary schools and the district’s learning center, early childhood programs, preschool and Kids Club.

“We will have something for everyone from preschoolers to adults,” Trevino said. “This is an opportunity to showcase the results of excellent education.”
