The Elbert Board of County Commissioners approved the construction of two meteorological towers to be built in the eastern portion of the county.

The applicant is General Electric Energy and the towers will be used to measure wind velocities and characteristics over the next 12 to 18 months. The Elbert County Planning Commission voted 7-0 in favor for the project and there was no controversy or issues during the referral process.

All three commissioners agreed that the project is positive for the county.

“This is certainly a type of industry that is coming and I think it fits our long term goals for the county,” said commissioner Del Schwab. “I certainly like this type of development.”
